Global Corporate Challenge

RNS Admin team walk around the world….

The RNS admin team are taking positive steps in their health and fitness at work. They have joined many thousands from around the world in a very different and very fun health and fitness initiative known as The Global Corporate Challenge.

The challenge was designed to assist in breaking the potentially dangerous effects that our sedentary working lives today can sometimes entail. The initiative helps participants get fit and healthy AND travel the globe virtually….so how does it work?

Corporate teams of 7 participants each register from around the world including two teams of 7 from our own RNS Admin team. Each participant receives a pedometer and for 125 days records how many steps they take during the day. Every day they enter their tally which is converted into km’s for their team’s virtual tour of the globe – the more active the further around the world you go.

Globally there are over 1 billion overweight adults, with at least 300 million of these being obese.
(Statistics from the World Health Organisations, obesity and overweight fact sheet.) GCC encourage participants to achieve at least 10000 steps a day – a benchmark figure that health care professionals recommend you achieve to positively improve your health including reducing your risk of diabetes, reduction in cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

Corporates around the world are getting involved including Palmolive.

The GCC starts on 24th May and ends on 25th September. Wish our team luck in their virtual walk around the world and we’ll keep you posted on their progress.

Big Wrap for Nurses 2007

by Regional Nursing Solutions 21. May 2007 14:25

It was big, it was heard across the state and it was great fun. The Regional Nursing Solutions, Big Wrap for Nurses on International Nurses’ Day was a day of celebrations that involved key members of the Sunshine Coast health community, local business and the community all coming together to have some fun and recognise the hard work nurses perform every day in their careers.

Our day started at The Big Wrap breakfast where Mayor Joe Natoli, Debbie Blumel ALP candidate for Fairfax and Marc Broadbent of CQU all addressed attendees with support for our message. Then we headed out for a day of hospital bed racing where teams dressed up in all manner of medical inspired costume and raced for the CQU Golden Bed Pan trophy and $1000 RACQ cash prize. Ramsay Health took out the winning prize and will be using the funds to support the Noosa Hospital.

That evening we all let our hair down at The Big Wrap Nurses Ball where people dug deep for the cause and over $2000 was raised for The National Breast Cancer Foundation.

RNS would like to thank all of our sponsors for making The Big Wrap for Nurses possible. We hope to see you all there next year for an even better….and BIGGER wrap for nurses.

Check out some of the photo’s from the day.

BIG WRAP FACTS

How to wrap a Big Pineapple?
The Big Pineapple wrap took 9 hrs to finish and used over 400metres of fabric to complete the wrap.

Best Dressed Hospital Bed
The best dressed hospital bed and team was taken out by the Eden Rehabbers, a team from one of our silver sponsors, Eden Healthcare.

What is the Golden Bed Pan?

The Golden Bed Pan didn’t make an appearance on the day but it is the inaugural trophy in the shape of…you guessed it…a hospital bed pan. The trophy with the winners name engraved will live at Regional Nursing Solutions ready for next year.
